TeRRRIFICA is a project that includes a comprehensive review of: research on adaptation to climate change, real action taken in this direction in development policy and strategies and methods used to communicate the challenges of climate change to external partners (society, business, public authorities).

The project operates simultaneously in six pilot regions: Spain, Germany, France, Serbia and Poland and Belarus. It is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme (H2020-SwafS-2018-2020 (Science with and for Society)) and runs from 2018 to 2022.

Summing up the TeRRIFICA activities to date, we should write about two teleconferences (22 May and 19 September) or about the TeRRIFICA Reflective Workshop in July (July 10-11), which was attended by team members and representatives of stakeholders.

An important event was a consultation workshop with interested parties from the Poznań Agglomeration (20 September, 2019). This meeting aimed to integrate different stakeholders involved in adaptation to and the mitigation of climate change. The workshop was attended by representatives of science and education, NGOs, business and public administration. The participants talked about such problems as:

  • identification of knowledge deficits in relation to climate change,
  • identification of drivers for increasing the importance of climate change in the value hierarchy,
  • indication of institutional features that have a significant impact on climate change activities,
  • identification of conditions for effective stakeholder engagement/cooperation in the field of climate action.

During the workshop, the World Café technique was used to create ideal conditions for a joint debate on the issues discussed.

The intensive work on a crowdmapping tool continued during this period, aiming to collect experiences and opinions on the observed climate change by society. The tool can be found at http://mapujklimat.terrifica.eu/

An important aspect of the project is to get through to many people involved in issues related to climate change. Recently, the team participated in scientific events where the TeRRIFICA idea was presented and promoted, e.g. “Environment at CrossrOads: SMART approaches for a sustainable future – ECOSMART” in Budapest, the international conference CIRCE 2020, or the 17th Symposium of the Association of the National Council of EU Co-ordinators of Research Projects. The TeRRIFICA project was also presented as one of the activities of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań in its mission of social involvement.
