TeRRIFICA is a project that includes a comprehensive review of research on adaptation to climate change, real actions taken in this direction in development policy, and strategies and methods used to communicate the challenges of climate change to external partners (society, business, public authorities).

The project operates simultaneously in six pilot regions: Spain, Germany, France, Serbia and Poland and Belarus. It is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme (H2020-SwafS-2018-2020 (Science with and for Society)) and runs from 2018 to 2022.

On December 3 and 4, 2019, a meeting of the members of our TeRRIFICA project consortium took place in Barcelona. The meeting was of a technical nature and served primarily to report on the progress of the project within the individual work packages. It was also a very good opportunity to discuss the most important assumptions of the project related, among other things, to the promotion of the crowdmapping tool and ways of continuous development of cooperation between the project beneficiaries in subsequent years.

A climate change mapping tool was launched at the end of February and is available at: http://mapujklimat.terrifica.eu

When the situation returns to normal, the team plans to promote the tool and start using it on a larger scale. An important part of its functioning will be joint development of solutions with the community, helping to mitigate or counteract the effects of climate.

At the beginning of January 2020, we published a report in which TeRRIFICA-analysed projects, programs or initiatives were implemented in the Poznań agglomeration in the area of climate change mitigation and adaptation to its effects. We paid special attention to the issues of cooperation and involvement of actors from various sectors—science, civil society, local authorities, business. The report summarizes the first phase of the work on identifying good and bad practices in climate cooperation. The report is available here.

The team is also preparing an article under the working title ‘Co-creation for climate changes—needs for actions to boost drivers and diminish barriers’, which should be published this year in the journal Weather, Climate, and Society. The article is a summary of last year’s workshops with TeRRIFICA project stakeholders from the Poznań Agglomeration. Stakeholders were the representatives of the world of science and education, social organizations, businesses and the public administration.

Recently, the participants have also promoted the project at scientific events. We took part, e.g., at the Urban Policy Congress (November 14–16, 2019) in Kielce and the International Geographic Union Conference (MUG) on Natural Disasters, Marginalized Regions and Labor Migration Urban Policy Congress in Kathmandu (December 8–10, 2019). TeRRIFICA was also represented at the GAP Seminar, Collegium of Economy and Public Administration at the Cracow University of Economics held on January 17–19, 2020 in Zakopane.
